Pothole Patching is the process of cleaning out a pothole with blowers and brooms, applying tack in order for the HMA ("Hot Mix Asphalt") to bond to the existing asphalt. This process is finished by compacting the asphalt with either a vibratory roller or plate compactor. Pothole patching is very prone to snow plow damage.
Infrared Asphalt Repair: This is the process of heating up the existing asphalt using a propane fired refractory blanket. Once the repair area has reached a temperature of 350 degrees, the oils in the asphalt are loose enough to rework the area. Using an asphalt rake, the asphalt is raked out and reworked. At that point, rejuvenating oils are added to the old asphalt and fresh HMA is added to make it even with the surrounding grade. This repair is finished off by compacting with a vibratory roller.
Mill & Patch: Using a mini mill, Bart's Asphalt LLC is able to mill anywhere from 1.5" to 5" deep of the existing asphalt. Once the asphalt is milled up, the repair area is thoroughly cleaned off and tack is applied in order to bond the new HMA. HMA is then installed and compacted using a vibratory roller.
